The Love Movement

A Tribe Called Quest an all American Hip Hop group was in created 1985 in Queens, New York. The group was originally composed of Q-Tip (b. Jonathan Davis), Phife Dawg (b. Malik Taylor) and Ali Shaheed Muhammed. The group's ability in using Jazz as a platform differentiated the group from other artists during their time while also tackling the issues of date rape, police brutality, and the usage of the "N" word.[]

The Begining[]

The Tribe Called Quests was formed in the late 80's and early 90's during the trio's high school years. Prior to the creation of the group, Q-Tip and Ali Shaheed Muhammed were childhood friends.

During the summer of August 1989, the trio signed their debut album "Description of A Fool" and later signed a record deal with Jive records.

To further the sounds of Hip Hop, A Tribe Called Quests connected with other famous Hip Hop artist to enhance their strong belief system of black empowerment. Midnight Marauders (1993) included De La Soul, The Jungle Brothers, The Beastie Boys, Ice-T, and Heavy D.

The Love Movement in 1998, was lyrically created to express love for their fans. The Love Movement was a continuation of the groups' previous album Beats, Rhymes, Life, and featuring minimalist R&B and Jazz oriented by The Ummah.
